BUET Teacher Wins the First Prize in International Architectural Design Competition


SHEIKH AHSAN ULLAH MOJUMDER (Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh) and his design team (Dilruba Ferdous Shuvra, Asifur Rahman, Dr. Sharmina Sultana) have won the first place in the international design competition titled ‘Design for the Children’- an architectural design challenging architects and designers from around the world to develop an adaptable, sustainable and culturally responsive pediatric clinic to be built and modified to fit different sites in East Africa.


Design for the Children is a collaboration of “Fight for the” Children, “Architecture for Humanity: Seattle”, and “American Institute of Architects: Seattle”.


With more than 300 entries from over 30 countries to choose from, the best and most interesting have emerged. The Top 50 Designs were Exhibited and the Winners were Announced at Humanity For Children’s Bubbles & Sweets Fundraiser on May 2, 2009.


1st Place: SHEIKH AHSAN ULLAH MOJUMDER (Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, BUET) and his team. 
2nd Place:  Lara Calder Architect- Sydney, Australia
3rd Place:  Perkins + Will- Seattle, United States
Honorary Mention:  CO Architects – Los Angeles, United States
