Training workshop on Quality Assurance in Outcome Based Education



The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of BUET organized a training workshop on “Quality Assurance in Outcome Based Education” at the ITN Seminar Room, ARI-ITN Building on August 18, 2016. The day long training was attended by 28 faculty members from the various departments and institutes of BUET.


The training-workshop was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Dipak Kanti Das, a Syndicate member of BUET and a former professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, BUET. Professor Das shared his views on quality education on tertiary level and his personal experiences as a teacher of BUET. Professor Dr. M. Iqbal Saripan, Director of Centre for Quality Assurance of University Putra Malaysia was present as the special guest in the Inaugural session.


The technical session of the training workshop began with a small presentation by Professor Dr. Saripan on the need for formalization of quality assurance system at Institutional Level. The subsequent sessions were facilitated by Professor Dr. A S Md Abdul Haseeb, Dean, Innovative Research Cluster, University of Malaya. The training workshop focused on quality assurance at course level through implementation of outcome based education (OBE). The training workshop included a mix of lectures and hands-on sessions.

The program was concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony. Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Honourable Vice Chancellor of BUET, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Three of the participating faculty members Professor Dr. Quazi Azizul Mowla (Department of Architecture), Dr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman (Department of Mechanical Engineering) and Ms Shahin Akhter (Institute of Information and Communication Technology) spoke on the occasion expressing their views on the usefulness of the training workshop. In his speech, Professor Dr. Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor, spoke about the quality of engineering education at BUET and acceptability of BUET graduates all over the world with a few examples. He also emphasized on the need for such training workshops for the faculty members to cope up with the changing scenario of tertiary education on national and global level. Later, he distributed the certificates among the participating faculty members. The workshop ended with vote of thanks note by Professor Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam, Director, IQAC, BUET.
