Delta Cap Inception Workshop in BUET

A half-day Inception Workshop of the Delta Cap Project was held on 16th January, 2017at the Council Building of BUET. Delta Cap is a four years’ program, aiming at strengthening education and training capacities for water sector professionals required to putting sustainable delta planning into practice. This project is being funded by the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE)and led by UNESCO-IHE (Netherlands), along with the other partners –Alterra Wageningen UR (Netherlands), Delta Alliance Bangladesh Wing (IWM, BUET, CEGIS, BWP, BCAS, BWDB and WARPO) and two Private sector organizations (mPower and CAS).
The main objective of this workshop was to share information and receive feedback on the background, objective, setup and outline of the planned activities under the Delta Cap project. The chief guest for the inaugural session was Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor, BUET while Mr. Md. Jahangir Kabir, Director General, BWDB was the chair of the session. Prof. Dr. Chris Zevenbergen, Chair Flood Resilience Core Group, UNESCO-IHE as the Project Lead gave a brief overview of the Delta Cap project with its prospects, methods along with possible outcomes. Dr. Mashfiqus Salehin, Director, IWFM, BUET and Dr. Ataur Rahman, Head, WRE, BUET delivered the welcome speech and votes of thanks respectively. More than 50 participants from different government and non-government organizations were present in the session and shared their knowledge and expertise thoughts regarding Bangladesh Delta Cap project through discussions.
After the inaugural session a technical session was held which was chaired by Mr. Abu Saleh Khan, Deputy Executive Director, IWM. Dr. Shah Alam Khan, Professor, BUET; Mr. Hasib Ahsan, M Power and Ms. Catharien Terwisscha van Scheltinga, Wageningen, UR were the speakers of this session. Sustainable Delta Management Centre, Measuring Impact Delta Cap, and Development Trainings were the key issues of this session.
